The baklava is one of the key archetypal geometric shapes and ornaments both in prehistorical artefacts from the Balkan Peninsula and in the visual milieu of the costumes and carps of our ancestors. The baklava is a shape that connects us all.

If you look a little bit closer, you will realise that we are “surrounded” by baklavas. Our first major challenge is to draw this perfect geometric shape in the auditive space.

The baklava is both a powerful and an extremely sweet dessert. Anyone who has ever tasted baklava could not have remained indifferent. Our second major challenge is to penetrate the secrets and recipes of the musical delicacies of the Macedonian folk music tradition.

On the first day of his new job, two colleagues show him around the old prison, telling him about the rough work and about Apache, a Russian informer. All of a sudden, and due to some building work, some plaster falls from the ceiling and hits Juan Olivier, who passes out. The guards take him into cell 211, which is empty, to try and revive him. But, as luck would have it, that's when a riot breaks out at the high security FIES cell block, the one that houses the most dangerous inmates. Juan's colleagues run away, leaving him stranded. When he wakes up in the cell he takes stock of the situation: if he wants to save his skin, he must pretend to be a prisoner.

Ottawa Greek Fest

We were at the Greek Fest last night for the Zorba Dance Show. The festival took place at 1315 Prince of Wales Drive, and will be there till August 22nd.

We tasted some of the Greek dishes, salads and deserts, again we tried to keep it "vegies only".  Then we had few dishes of desserts like "baklava", "loukmades", "kadaifi" and "apple pie".

"Baklava" same in Turkish, looks same but the taste is a little bit different . Wikipedia says "Baklava (Ottoman Turkish: باقلوا) is a rich, sweet pastry made of layers of phyllo dough filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with syrup or honey. "

"Loukoumades" spelled as "Lokma" in Turkish, looks same but Turkish version is smaller and less sweet. Wikipedia says "Loukoumades (Greek), lokma (Turkish) are a kind of fried-dough pastry made of deep fried dough soaked in sugar syrup or honey and cinnamon, and sometimes sprinkled with sesame."

"Kadaifi"  spelled as "Kadayif" in Turkish, looks and tastes different, but same kinda recipe. It is almost same as Knafe, but In Turkey, only kadayif pastry (shredded pastry; called "wire kadayif") is used for making künefeKadayif is not rolled around the cheese. Cheese is put in between two layers of wire kadayif. It is cooked in small copper plates, served very hot in syrup with clotted cream kaymak and pistachios or walnuts.

The best part of the night was obviously the (Syrtaki) Zorba Dance show. It started at 9 pm and it was full of energy, color, and passion. Greeks and Turks share lots of things in common, food, music and culture of both nations is very similar.

1000 Islands & Gananoque Trip

We drove to 1000 islands today and took the 2.5 hrs boat trip along the islands. Even 1 hr boat trip would be enough since it was all about islands and expensive houses by the river. Probably the most interesting house/chateau was the one built in 1902 with 120 rooms.

Today we decided to eat veggies only for the next 3 weeks and got lots of fruits for the trip and we are having salad for dinner. Mr "D" is preparing our SouthWest salad right now and we have cashew nuts and grapes for appetizers.

Harley Davidson

I saw this bike on the street today, by the look of it I hougy it is a Harley and the one I am planning to get one day is going to be either this model or something very close to this. Found this one in Ottawa, Ontario liked the body and how it looks.

August 12-13 An evening at the peak of Meteor Showers

We drove to Lac Meech in Gatineau Park to watch the shooting stars.
Lake Meech was named after Reverend Asa Meech, an early settler in this area.

Meteors, Shooting Stars etc..., It was a great experience after watching the Hubble 3D at IMAX
